64th St. & 1st Ave. Gives free checking with no minimum balance to anyone with a NY Hospital (ny-presbyterian-weill-cornell-teritiary-superocool-center?) identification card. (GR 9/7/99)
Really close, with a zillion ATMs throughout NYC. Tell them that you're from Cornell Med and they'll waive the monthly fees for the first year. Watch the monthly fees, though -- unless you have a $6,000 minimum balance to throw around, you may want to check around. Still, convenience is important, and with the charges you may incur at Citibank ATMs if you're not a member, it's worth checking out. Also can link directly to your no-annual-fee Citibank credit card if you have one, and offers online banking/bill payment, which can be exceedingly convenient if you have a net connection and a secure web browser (see branch for details).
Not as close (66th and 2nd); no check fee, minimum balance $250. No first-hand accounts for cGuide yet.
Really not as close (1165 3rd Ave. at 68th St.): low minimum balance, no minimum required during summer months. No first-hand accounts for cGuide yet.
